Green kitchens and green curtains

We’ve finally made an official decision about the kitchen! We’re going with a contractor called Buckminster Green. They’re a green contracting company who takes steps to reduce impact on the environment through things like recycling all the materials they use, using low VOC adhesives and paints, and helping the customer to make more environmentally conscious choices for cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc. So now not only will we have a new kitchen but we can pat ourselves on the back until the end of time, telling everyone that we’ve singlehandedly saved the environment. It looks like when all is said and done, we’ll probably start around the beginning of June, so we won’t have our fancy kitchen until July, but I’ve dealt with this one for long enough I can probably make it a few more months.

Also, I’ve put my newfound sewing skills to good use making new curtains for the front window! I’m posting an old photo where you can sort of see the previous curtains, just for comparison purposes:

Green Goat is a good resource for green building planning on the east coast, and especially demo recycling . I’m using them on a sustainable cottage up in Ipswich along with Boston Green Building.
